Pressing Forward...

The last few days have been filled with small but important changes in my dear wife's life. She is more alert than she has been previously. When her eyes are wide open she does well in responding to commands and is fairly active with her hands and legs. She still tires easily so when it's time to rest, she will be out. This is no surprise given the difficulty of the challenges she is facing.

She is beginning to show signs that she can communicate. This week they will work on making it more consistent so we can be sure we know what she would like us to know. They gave her a new trachea which allows the oxygen to go up through her mouth and nose. This moves air over her vocal chords where she can now hear her voice.  It's wonderful to be able hear her make sounds that will allow her to communicate and eventually talk. We pray that day comes sooner than later.

Our goal is to have her become more and more alert so she can maximixe the effects of the therapy she is receiving. While we have a discharge date, we pray that this will be moved due to her progress.

I can't end this update without thanking all who keep Sherrie in your thoughts and prayers. We have been so blessed to have so many who have inquired, called, emailed and written from places around the world. Sherrie and I will be ever grateful for your love and concern. While the days seem long, I remain very hopeful that all will be well in time.

  1. Ron, Brent and I are always thinking about you and Sherrie. Yesterday Brent was telling his sister about how Sherrie calls him Rental and how you guys used to travel together in the Carolinas; fun, silly memories. I pointed out all the things in our home that have come from Sherrie. You two are intertwined in our lives and not a day goes by that we don't remember you both. I heard this the other day, I think it was in a movie (and I know you two love movies). "Everything will be alright in the end, so if everything isn't alright, it isn't the end." All will be well, I know it. We love you!!

  2. Ron, there isn't a day that goes by that we don't think of and pray for Sherrie, you and your family. We are so happy to see that she is improving little by little. I truly believe that what may seem as "small and simple" improvments are really the blessings that come from our Heavenly Father. I know that the Savior is beside Sherrie and that every day is the beginning of a miracle. I am amazed at how much she has progresseed and Jeff and I are also amazed with the faith you and your children have exemplified to all of us that love you. May the Lord bless and keep all of you in His tender care and may His blessings be poured out upon Sherrie.
    Much love,
    Jeff and Rachelle Bell

  3. Ron and kids,
How grateful we are for the updates! We have reached for the phone countless times to call you or the house, to share our love for Sherrie, you and the kids. However, we feel overwhelming impressions to continue praying and let you focus on contact with your families and not be a distraction. Please know how great our love is for all of you. I'm sure others can relate when I say that it's difficult to go about our normal lives, our normal routines knowing how much each of you are enduring on a daily basis. We are thrilled with Sherrie's progress! She's doing it! She's working so hard! Our continued thoughts and prayers are with each of you. We pray you find the much needed strength to keep going.
    All our love,
    Laurel, Kevin and kids

  5. Dear Ron and Family,

We just returned from Europe and finally have access to a computer. I have been anxious to read updates for the past week, and it is comforting and uplifting to hear that Sherrie is still making progress. I miss her so much! We are praying and have faith that all will be well. God bless you (I know He will) as you walk faithfully through the unknown future and trust Him.

    Love, Lorraine
