This blog has been put together to keep all of us updated on Ron and Sherrie.

On Mother's Day morning, May 13, Ron and Sherrie headed to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic for an incentive trip with Fenwal. From the picutre texts and phone calls we all received, they were having the time of their lives. Tragically on Thursday, May 17, Sherrie fell out of the golf cart, in which she and Ron were riding, and hit her head. Ron revived her with CPR and she seemed to be regaining consciousness   well. They took her to the hospital where she then slipped into a coma.

It was determined that she needed to undergo a craniotomy with the neuro surgeon at the hospital. During the surgery, they discovered a fracture in her skull, a hematoma and a leak of fluid. The surgery took place at 2am Central time.

She is since out of surgery. She seems to be having a little trouble responding to the medication. Her blood pressure is low and she has needed a blood transfusion. Her heart rate is high and they are working to fix that. They are estimating that she will need to stay at the hospital in Punta Cana for at least 72 hours and until the swelling has reduced. The goal is to get her transferred to a US hospital, Northwestern, or to get a team of doctors to her.

Brandon, Zach and Brittney are on their way to the Dominican and will arrive today, May 18. Tyler, Todd and Brik Eyre will get there tomorrow morning. Thankfully there are wonderful people there to help. Deb Vieth and Chris Visak have been there with Ron to help coordinate things.

The outpouring of love has been incredible. Which is not surprising considering that Sherrie is adored by all. Many people have asked what they can do to help. First off, our thanks for you love and support. We all feel a bit helpless. The only thing we can really do at this point is to pray for her recovery and for the doctors to be guided in their care for her.

Many of us have started a fast today. We would love your participation. All prayers and encouragement are welcome.

We will do our best to keep you updated on her progress. We will know more once the kids arrive at the hospital and can update us regularly.

  8. We were so shocked to hear of Sherrie's injury. Life is so precious. Sherrie is my VT and came to see me just before Mother's Day with a lovely flower. Each time I look at it I remember her visits to me and feel her huggs. God bless you all and may He bless Sherrie with the strength to come thru this. We are praying for her and look forward to her being back home soon. We love you all...Jerry & Susana Parkin

  10. Phil and I are including Sherrie and the entire Labrum family in our prayers. As Susana mentioned in her post, "Life is so precious". In the blink of an eye things can change. One of my favorite scriptures is in Proverbs, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding". It is not for us to understand why things happen the way they do sometimes, but to move forward and trust that the Lord will guide us through our trials. Based on my personal experiences, it seems He always does.
